Philadelphia 76ers Creative Project 1

Creativity. A word that contains so many meanings. Being creative looks different to you and different to me. Creativity is shown through art, music, film, and even through sports. To me, creativity highlights imperfections, sports highlights imperfections. Professional sports include playing on the world’s stage for all to see where each night your imperfections are highlighted. Philadelphia. The city of brotherly love. A city that rallies behind their teams. The Philadelphia 76ers. The team that has the city’s heart. The reason they care about the NBA. Watching the players put their skills to the test, watching them be creative. It is inspiring. It is uniting. The creativity in sports unites a city and brings people together for their one common goal: to watch their team win. In Ken Robinson’s Ted Talk, he explains how schools limit creativity. It causes people to feel “stuck” or “trapped”. I fall into this more than anyone else. One of the ways that I get out of it is through sports, more specifically, basketball. Sports are one of my outlets for creativity. It allows me to be crafty and get lost in the details. Players like Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey from the 76ers perform on impeccable moves and are able to shake their defenders in a matter of seconds because of how creative they are on the court. The Sixers are a fantastic team to watch, you can see that they have so much fun playing the game that they love. It is because of that love and that confidence that they are able to be creative. Their love for the game allows them to not be structured, to not be stuck, to take it into their own hands and to allow themselves to make mistakes for the sake of one day being successful. You don’t get to the world’s stage without failing along the way. Creativity is yielded from imperfection. In sports, that is illuminated over almost anything else.
